Questions or technical queries? IStudio Publisher 1.4.1 contains a host of new features, productivity boosters, improvements and fixes. Here are some highlights:.
Corner Inspector Add corner styles to any shape vertex (where two straight lines meet), and create a huge range of inspiring shapes with ease. Choose from: radius, scoop, chamfer, notch, and several loop designs. Adjust corner size, smoothing, apply to vertices of any angle, and select which angle ranges to include. Corners retain their proportions as shapes are modified. Several Shape Library designs have been reimplemented and significantly improved by using these new corner capabilities.
Info Bar, with comprehensive contextual help and keyboard shortcuts Discover contextual keyboard shortcuts as you work, to supercharge the Toolkit and Shape Library without having to refer to the help pages! A huge productivity booster. Keystroke constraints for sizing and positioning shapes All shape tools and drawing tools have been enhanced with keystroke constraints, to provide proportional resize, resize straight line segments along their own axis, resize about the center, ignore snap grid, constrain rotation angle to 5 degrees, and rotate about opposite corner.
The new context-sensitive Info Bar identifies all available options. Context-sensitive popups, showing shape size, position, angle and snapping constraints Displayed when drawing, dragging, rotating and editing shapes. Visual drawing aids added to shapes during creation and editing Includes a global bounding box, diagonal cross, center point, and protractor (during angle adjustment).
'Sticky' drawing tools and library shapes The Caps Lock key now persists the selection of all drawing tools and library shapes - select once and draw many. Highlighting shapes when dragging a selection rectangle Provides invaluable visual feedback of what will be selected. Use the Shift key to include partially enclosed shapes. Another productivity booster. Align, distribute and snap all take the new corner styles into account.
Duplicate selected shape(s) by dragging with the Alt key held down. Align single shapes Single shapes can now be aligned to the page center or page edges. When spread editing, the nearest page is used. Keyboard modifiers for nudging shapes with keyboard arrow keys. Export any document as a PDF file with reader spreads Reader spreads display a document as it appears when assembled as a booklet or magazine: first page on its own followed by facing pages side-by-side. Pinch to zoom when using a trackpad. Maximum font size increased from 576 pt to 9999 pt and more standard font sizes added iStudio Publisher can be used to create very large posters without the need to scale the final exported PDF.
UI precision of mm and degrees increased to two decimal places. Combined Zoom Tool replaces separate tools for zooming in and out. View zoom range increased (1%-10,000%). When inserting, pasting or dropping PDF-based content onto an empty area, add it at full-size Ideal for filling out PDF forms and for adding PDFs requiring annotation. Tabbing round selected shapes shifts the view to bring out-of-view shapes into view. Image Tool makes any image movable by double clicking on it, regardless of fit/align settings. Stroke width included when hit testing shapes for text addition/editing Provides selection consistency between different tools and selection activities.
Dragging in of external text and images improved to make the target tool/selection consistent. New document windows are now wider and positioned at the screen center. Pages/spreads centered when adding, duplicating, moving, removing, or navigating between. Font loading when iStudio starts up now occurs as a background activity Provides significant load speed improvements for large numbers of user-installed fonts.
For the full list of new features, improvements and fixes, see the Release Notes in iStudio Publisher’s help pages. 1.3 Feb 13, 2017. IStudio Publisher 1.3 contains many new features, improvements and fixes – our largest update ever! Here are some of the highlights:. Comprehensive hyperlink support Link text and shapes to web pages, email addresses, internal pages, files and custom URLs.
Visualise and test links in iStudio Publisher. Use internal links to create a document contents page that links to different sections. Links are embedded in exported PDFs.
Page/spread reordering and duplication Complete control over adding, removing, duplicating and reordering the pages/spreads in your document, with full undo/redo. Separate Thumbnails window Navigate around documents with ease.
Adjust window size/zoom to view your whole document. Drag to duplicate or reorder pages/spreads. Window remembers its size, position and zoom.
Contextual menus All your favourite actions in one handy place, and some new ones. A much-requested productivity booster. Typically available using control-click, right-click or two-finger tap (for trackpads) on the document window. Font support upgraded Font interaction is much better organised and presented, and it's faster. Font faces in each family are clearly grouped together, and the total number of available faces is shown. We also added a Recent Fonts list, which grows as you open existing documents and whenever you apply fonts.
It's available from the main menu, the contextual menus and the inspectors, and it resets when iStudio Publisher launches. Notifications added for unavailable bold/italic font variants We don't synthesise fonts as it's not good practise. If you need a bold or italic font variant, it has to be installed. If it isn't, the app now warns you when you try to set it. Many organisational settings persist between restarts Document window size/position, shape library state, rulers, inspector panel size and position, open inspectors, Thumbnails window size/position/zoom, and most view settings (including snap and grid).
Inserted images are scaled within the page size, instead of original size Applies regardless of how you insert images: copy/paste, drag/drop, insert menu, or Image Inspector. Previously, large images could extend well beyond the page boundaries, making them tricky to resize. Now the size of the image's containing shape is capped at 80% of the page dimensions, and the image's fit mode is set to 'Fit - no Stretch'. Speed and accuracy of inset, outset, and runaround calculations Shapes with non-trivial boundary lines perform noticeably faster when you adjust their inset and outset distances. The generation of the inset and outset paths is much improved. Now when you enable text outset, you get smooth rounded corners instead of sharp vertices.
A range of measures to manage large files You're notified if a file is growing large, or can’t be saved due to insufficient file system space. Document file size is shown on the document window title bar. Document window tabs (macOS Sierra only) Open multiple documents in one window, each with its own tab. Blinking cursor. Drag and drop content from another app now centers the content on the drop point.
Flow linking appends any existing downstream text Linking two text containers together concatenates any flow that they may already contain, appending the downstream text. (NOTE: only if the downstream container doesn't already have text flowing into it from another source). Pasting shapes onto a different page or document doesn’t offset the first paste A productivity booster. The app remembers how many times you've pasted onto each page, and calculates successive offsets accordingly. This makes it very quick to paste items in the same place onto multiple pages. Overhaul of tooltips for the whole UI We've added more tooltips, improved existing tooltips, and included keyboard shortcuts where appropriate. For a full list of the new features, improvements and fixes, see the Release Notes in the iStudio Publisher’s help pages.

I’ve been a desktop publishing user for 25 years. From Adobe Pagemaker to InDesign. InDesign is comprehensive and difficult to use, not user friendly. Also it costs a bundle! IStudio Publisher is an awesome product, it does everything and more that anyone could want in desktop publishing. It is quick and intuitive.
Have you used the technical support? It is AMAZING. I email and within 24 hours, usually sooner, I get these comprehensive responses (from Andy). And I’ve been using it for over 2 years. They even remember who I am!?
I know, right? I recently asked a question and in the response Andy said they were, in fact, incorporating that aspect into the newer version.
And he included current ways to do what I wanted to do. Support is for the lifetime of the product, I guess! I highly recommend this, as a long time Adobe desktop product user, buy this instead, you will be happy and your bank account will be too! Developer Response Thanks Meg! We really appreciate your review and are always happy to help.

It’s easy and can be manipulated well, and honestly some features work better than its more expensive counterpart. Are you going to paint a masterpiece as you would in illustrator? Can you make an easy and smooth vector without pulling your hair out over overly intense settings? I honestly like using it better than the Adobe products I’ve used previously for ease and speed of use without too many options. Only downsides are that not many people have it/have access to it if you are sharing design files and it only exports into PDFs, which you then have to convert to alternative graphic files. Otherwise, does everything I need and more.
Developer Response Many thanks Beth and great to hear you like iStudio! Anyone with a Mac can download a 30-day free trial of iStudio from our website, and even after the trial expires this can still be used to open and view iStudio documents shared by others. Doctor Gary So long Adobe InDesign I have used Adobe InDesign for years and Page Maker before that. There is no doubt they represent the gold standard for page layout for most people. Unfortunately, the “leasing” price is a pain and InDesign has become too cumbersome for many users.
Enter iStudio Publisher. Easy to use and full-featured enough to satisfy 95% of current users of InDesign. Many of the commands are indentical to InDesign and the layout and use of the many varied tools is more intuitive. It has immediate access to to video tutorials, useful templates, and a concise rapid start guide. I really cannot understand how anyone could not be impressed with this application, especially for the price.
Happy to write this review for such well-thought-out product. Developer Response Thanks for the very positive comments and great to hear you’re enjoying the app. We try to encourage everyone to take a look at the rapid start guide. It only takes a few minutes and tells you everything you need to get going.

UNSURPASSED TYPOGRAPHY First-Class OpenType Controls We all know that OpenType fonts offer the best typography options such as proper small caps, real fractions, ligatures, tabular figures, stylistic sets suggested by font designers and much more. However, most applications hide typographic functionality offered by OpenType or make it almost impossible to apply.
QuarkXPress 2018 is different: For the first time OpenType is treated as a first-class citizen. Rather than hide the options in multiple submenus we make OpenType easier to use. With QuarkXPress 2018 you can now control your OpenType fonts the way you expect to.
Colour Fonts Support For many years the changes in typography have been incremental rather than radicalthat is until colour fonts emerged. (Emoji icons on your phone are examples of colour fonts.) While browsers have supported colour fonts for years, print publications have ignored them until now: QuarkXPress 2018 is the first layout application that fully supports Colour Fonts.
QuarkXPress supports Colour Fonts in SVG, SBIX and COLR formats. And you can use them in print, PDF and digital outputs. To get a sense of how Colour Fonts work and how they will open up a broad new space for your creativity, check out this website.
Upgraded Font Listing A good typeface can increase the reading pleasure of the viewer but even the best typefaces are not appropriate for every situation. Font listing has been overhauled in QuarkXPress 2018 to help you make the best typographic choices. Font Family and available Font Styles (Roman, Bold, etc.) are now listed in two separate combinations. Additionally, font styles are mapped to the type styles buttons P/B/I in the palettes and dialog.
Of course you can still turn off the WYSIWYG font listing for font family listing plus font styles are always listed in the default system font. Hyphenation Strictness Levels QuarkXPress has delivered quality hyphenation technology since version 6.5. It’s based on technology licensed from UB Dieckmann, considered by many to be the best hyphenation available on the market.
Buy Adobe Web And Desktop Publishing Software For Mac
But it gets better. In QuarkXPress 2018 you can choose between five hyphenation strictness levels. You can hyphenate everywhere that is grammatically correct or e.g. Chose to only hyphenate compound words. You pick which strictness level is best for your publication.
And of course, you can decide that for each individual paragraph if you choose. Hyphenation strictness levels are available for all languages supported by the QuarkXPress hyphenation engine, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and many more. PROFESSIONAL PRINT PUBLISHING Direct InDesign® IDML Import With more and more InDesign users switching to QuarkXPress, it was time to make it even easier to migrate. Of course, you can use existing QuarkXPress features to convert PDF files created in any application or even copy and paste InDesign objects into native QuarkXPress objects. However, this only migrates the design elements and not style sheets and master pages, for example. The new native InDesign IDML Import in QuarkXPress 2018 converts InDesign IDML documents directly into the QuarkXPress format. Features, which InDesign offers and QuarkXPress does not, will not be converted.

Not all InDesign features are currently supported. Features where QuarkXPress offers superior functionality over InDesign may need rework to make use of the full capabilities of QuarkXPress. New PDF Print Engine Requirements for PDF workflows increase permanently. To keep up the pace, we implemented the best PDF technology available on the market – callas® pdfToolbox – which even contains the Adobe® PDF libraries. That means QuarkXPress 2018 users benefit from the highest quality PDF, PDF/X and PDF/A, driven by two of the best PDF technology providers. Now with leading PDF technology, QuarkXPress 2018 is the first layout application with the ability to create one single PDF/X-A file that complies with both the PDF/X-4 and PDF/A-2b standards. Combined with the new built-in JavaScript capabilities, the new PDF Print Engine opens up a broad new way for print production automation.
Tagged/Accessible PDF Accessibility compliant PDFs are not just important but often mandatory. Many large corporates, governments suppliers are required by law to supply information published online in an accessible format. HTML5 is an obvious choice; often workflows require accessible PDFs. The new PDF engine in QuarkXPress 2018 combined with new tools for accessibility make this possible.
Even if you don’t need tagged PDFs for accessibility reasons, there are many benefits to understanding the text flow embedded within your PDFs. Built-in JavaScript ES6+ based on V8 Scriptability and extensibility have always been core values of QuarkXPress. With QuarkXPress 2018 you can now write cross platform JavaScripts to automate repetitive tasks by accessing capabilities beyond the user interface.
For example, you - or anyone with basic Java Scripting and HTML programming skills (HTML DOM manipulation) - can create unique features by accessing application and file system level commands, you can modify layout objects using document object model (DOM API). Unlike the competition, QuarkXPress 2018 uses an up-to-date version of JavaScript (ECMAScript ES6+). HTML5 Export Optimizations HTML5 Publications and ePub now export even more items as native HTML5 elements.
This includes support for type styles (Outline, Shadow), Tables as HTML tables, Anchored text boxes, grouped boxes and Tables, non-solid rules, footnote separators and Index entries as Hyperlinks. Digital Preview Improvements The following new HTML5 Preview options are available when authoring in QuarkXPress 2018: Page Preview, Layout Preview, Project Preview. Grouped Items Interactivity Add interactivity to groups e.g.
Buttons, Animations, Audio & Video. STREAMLINED USER INTERFACE VERTICAL MEASUREMENT PALETTE QuarkXPress 2018 provides new clarity with a vertical measurement palette especially for use on wide and high-resolution monitors. This powerful new floating palette provides access to all controls and attributes, is keyboard addressable and includes all previous shortcut keys (remember old modal CMD+M dialog?).
It’s also scrollable with easy-to-read labels so you always know which measurements you are changing without guessing or having to mouse over the icon. Work even faster now in QuarkXPress 2018! (macOS only). MORE WISH LIST FEATURES Digital-to-Print Conversion (Digital First Workflow) QuarkXPress 2018 now allows duplication of Digital layouts to Print layouts.
This is powerful: Start with your digital design/publication first and then - in a second step - create a printable subset of it. Span Footnotes over Columns Footnotes can now be formatted to span across all columns of a text box. Spanning all columns is the default setting but you can turn it off in the Footnote Separator Style dialog. Different Border for each side Select a different border style on each side for all square or rectangular shaped boxes. The new frame options are added to the main measurement palette. 10 to 1000% Print Scaling Print to device scaling is now allowed between 10% and 1000%. In previous versions, scaling was limited from 25% to 400%.
Note: The output device should be supported for larger paper size to verify. Flip Groups Flip grouped objects in one go retaining their relative position within the group.
